The 'English' Boy in Striped Pyjamas

Since I have been in the history mode mainly World War II, watching documentaries and reading books, I thought I'd watch 'The Boy in Striped Pyjamas'. This is a movie based on the novel by the same name and is set in WWII.
The story was good and I think the director did a good job of capturing the emotions of the characters. But, they all spoke in frigging English accents.
Now, when we were kids and watched the Sound of Music, it really didn't matter. I was oblivious to different accents. When you're 7 you assume that all westerners have a weird, or being more polite, a different accent than you do. I couldn't tell who was British and who American, they all spoke English!
So while Julie Andrews strutted her English accent and Christopher Plummer was oh so American, I couldn't tell the difference. I assumed all Austrians spoke that way.
But now, in this time, Directors strive for authenticity and the audience wants it too.
Imagine watching a documentary with Hitler speaking in a thick southern American accent!
In Schindler's List, they may not have had the perfect German accents, but come on they didn't sound English or American except for the ones who had to.
Accent trainers are in the profession for a reason, use them.
